Just google found here… Just wanted to say, I’ve also done the Fuji-san thing but started the climb in Kawaguchiko morning the day before. I’ve done it twice, and it’s only an attractive climb up to the fifth station (in fact, absolutely amazing)… The fifth onwards is as you said.

If you want to enjoy the true spirit of Fujisan, I recommend doing it off season. I hiked it solo in April (wearing crampons) and slept in a bivy tent on top. Nobody else on the entire mountain, and the snow/ice covers the dirt, rocks and other natural entities that you found so objectionable.
