A mother's tonkatsu (if she can cook) is the best. My Mom makes a super tonkatsu. Not sure if she just adds Mom's love, but having been spoiled to restaurant Japanese food by a Japanese Mom, I vote that my Mom makes killer tonkatsu. It is easy to make. And katsu don is also a yummy variation on it. My comfort food.

Can't find the Tonkatsu Ganko website. I took a pic last time but I didn't upload it to any website. I can send it by email. Email me your email address if you want.

Alternatively, this is how their tips page and tonkatsu set look like:

Hey everyone, thanks for the suggestions!

I actually had some REALLY good tonkatsu in Nara as well, I have no idea what the name of the place was, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same place. In any case, next time I make it down to Kansai, I will be sure to keep an eye out. Anyone got a website for it btw?

I was just at Tokyo Station yesterday, but didn't see your comment until today, so I will have to check it out next time!

Actually, I have read about Tonki Tonkatsu but haven't been....yet! :-)

Btw, I tried Maisen which is suppose to be really famous and delicious, but really nothing special as far as I am concerned. I mean, it was good, but a bit pricey. As of now, I am sticking with Saboten which I have the point card for as well! :-) Any other challengers?

i am a very big fan of Tonkatsu as well. I've got a 'pointo cardo' for the local Saboten in Ebisu.
However the best I've had is at the restaurant in the complex beside Tokyo Station that houses the Maruzen bookshop. I can't think of the name, but I'm sure you know the place, big, new shiny with lots of shops and 2 floors of restaurants.

It's perfect, go the Maruzen and spend a couple of hours browsing the huge English language section there, then head upstairs to the Tonkatsu place.

Sorry to hear you are leaving by the way. I only just found your site recently!

I have my best tonkatsu at Tonkatsu Ganko in Nara. I'm not sure if this is part of the chain restaurant because I have not been to other Ganko (read online that they are everywhere in downtown Osaka).
